New
York. If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere.
Just ask Calgary's
Jennifer Bawden. Bawden has become one of New York's hottest fashion designers
and most beloved socialites. While her dresses adorn the covers of Cosmopolitan,
New Woman and Elle, Bawden is seen gracing New York's society pages organizing
charity events for such beneficiaries as the New York City Opera.
Bawden recently
received the 1990 Manhattan Award, in the Junior category, honoring individuals
who have made a special contribution to New York City's spirit, excellence
and compassion. Her collections have been featured in the windows of Bergdorf
Goodman's Fifth Avenue and Giorgio's on Rodeo Drive. She's now negotiating
with Holt Renfrew to represent her line in Canada.
"I design
dresses that my friends and I can't find," says Bawden. "My objective is
to bring out a woman's inner beauty through the confidence of spectacular
feminine design."
Born in Calgary,
she's the daughter of oilman and politician Peter Bawden. And home is still
where part of her heart is. "It's important to let people in Alberta know
what I'm doing. I guess you can say I have a love affair with Canada."
