splenid to enter New York's Mayfair Regent and be greeted by that
elegant establishment's very elegant Venetian manager Dario Mariotti.
glorious bowls of coral roses adorned our pink suite and champagne
was an added delight. To the phone - wonderful, three lines! Time to call
Jen, just back from the Govenor General's party in Ottawa with her
dad, Calgary entrepreneur Peter Bawden. A junior jet-set darling,
Jennifer designs smashing dresses for Bergdorf's exclusive fourth-floor
salon. Last year she was on the cover of Manhattan magazine with
President George Bush, her extraordinary long hair trailing off
the page. The American media refer to her as an aspiring Brooke Astor
often seen with Alex Donner, an aspiring Peter Duchin.
Jen swept us away to Ciaobella, a trendy restaurant packed with
fun Eurotrash. Someone sent Bellinis over. (At night? We thought champagne
and peach nectar was for mornings.) A Parisian to die for began to spin
a depressing tale you could die from so we decided to drown in our own
champagne . . . |
